Climbs

Firstplan, Petit Ballon, Platzerwasel... climbs that took all the limelight during the Tour de France and where exploits have followed one another over the years. They were the inspiration behind la CyclO10C concept. The Munster Valley offers us a number of marvellous climbs with similar yet different characteristics. The 10 climbs in the common section of la CyclO10C routes are presented here.

During your odyssey, remember to take a photo at the various summits indicated below via the Checkpoints           . You'll need them to certify your achievement.

Now it's your turn to discover them !

Individually it doesn't seem too bad... But if you add them up, they'll be merciless !

Trois-Epis

The warm-up

The challenge starts immediately with the Montée de Trois-Epis, where the last few hairpin bends offer a breathtaking view of the Alsace plain.

Hohlandsbourg
The medieval pilgrimage
As you approach the summit, there is a final climb of over 10%. On a clear day, the luckiest climbers can enjoy panoramic views stretching from Strasbourg Cathedral to the Swiss Alps, including Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle and the Black Forest.

Hohrodberg

In the footsteps of the Battle of the Linge - 1/2

With its mainly open route and magnificent views of Munster, the Petit Ballon and the Hohneck, Hohrodberg is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful climbs on la CyclO10C, as well as one of the longest.

Checkpoint          : German military necropolis

Wettstein

In the footsteps of the Battle of the Linge - 2/2

The little brother of the Hohrodberg climb, the Wettstein climb offers the same advantages, with its exceptional views and vast meadows.

Checkpoint          : French military necropolis

Schlucht

All the way to the borders of Alsace

The Schlucht climb is the longest and most challenging climb on la CyclO10C. The route is particularly busy because of the many activities available at the summit (skiing, hiking, cycling, summer sledging).

Checkpoint            : Pass stele

Gaschney

Tout schuss

The start of the final part of the common section of la CyclO10C routes, the ascent to the Gaschney ski resort is a long section with an average gradient of over 8%.

Petit Ballon - 1/2

Double ascent for a real tribute

La CyclO10C is celebrating the Petit Ballon pass by climbing two of its sides. The average gradient is the steepest on the route, with some kilometres approaching 10%.

Petit Ballon - 2/2

Pinot bend

The second longest climb on the route, the ascent of Petit Ballon via Wasserbourg is irregular and offers the highest gradients (14%). It is 2km from the summit that the summit is revealed as you pass through the Virage Pinot. Many farm inns are located here.

Platzerwasel

As hard to write and pronounce as it is to climb

Being a la CyclO10C finisher has to be earned! The double ascent of the Petit Ballon followed by that of the Platzerwasel is without doubt one of the most difficult climbs in the Vosges. The Platzerwasel is a pass surrounded by trees, dark and steep, making the finish of the section common to all la CyclO10C routes a mystery.
